Tomi Lahren, a popular conservative spokeswoman for The Blaze, has had her position suspended for at least one week, likely longer. The reason? Coming out as pro-choice.
While being interviewed on The View last Friday, Tomi spoke upon a number of issues. Towards the end of the interview, she confirmed that she was, in fact, pro choice. As Tomi stated during the interview, “You know what? I’m for limited government, so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.”
This was immediately met with backlash from the right, which was expected. However, many were shocked to find out that Lahren, who is under contract with TheBlaze until September, is likely going to be forced out of her position early as punishment for expressing a dissenting political view.
A number of conservative outlets described this quote as “crossing the line” – apparently, holding a dissenting view is considered taking it too far.
Many others are accusing Lahren of being a hypocrite, as last December she identified strongly as pro-life and described women who get abortions as “baby killers.”
So, what’s the concern here?
1. A woman was fired for holding a dissenting political view in an attempt by the organization to censor an opposing opinion.
2. Changing one’s views / admitting one is wrong regarding an issue is now viewed as a form of hypocrisy.
Sadly, it appears that social justice warriors are present not just within the left, but the right as well. These “offended” individuals are so uncomfortable with the idea of a dissenting view regarding this issue that they are willing to censor that view entirely. The result is a cancerous political agenda which focuses on confirming the belief that abortion is an absolute evil, and that anyone who disagrees must go.
The justification used by these individuals is that abortion is murder, and therefore any form of opposition is justified – including censorship. This is an extremely common form of fascist thought, and is also prevalent among members of terrorist organizations who feel that “anything done for a good cause is justified.”
Censorship of this kind is absolutely unacceptable. Tomi Lahren expressed her views in an honest, non-offensive way that certainly should not result in her being silenced.
